History: Lily Potter is the youngest of Harry and Ginny Potter's three children. Ever since she was old enough to understand, she’s been extremely proud of her name. She’s named after both of her parent’s mothers – two people that put everything on the line for the ones they love. It’s a good name, a strong name… a name that Lily hopes she can one day live up to.
She’s already got a start on that goal. Family comes first for her… she would die for her family in a heartbeat. That, of course, doesn’t mean that she doesn’t want to kill her brothers every once in a while, but deep down she still loves them and would never dream of harming them seriously. She is also very smart with both books and common sense. Unfortunately, when she was young, she used this to trick her brothers, but she’s learned better – or so she claims. Her competitiveness is well known around the family, as is her kind and forgiving nature. She has no problem speaking up for others, but there are times when her big mouth gets her into trouble. Lily is also quite understanding of others and can usually read moods fairly well.
But she knows she still has things to work on. She’s very impatient when it comes to getting things she wants, and her short temper rivals Harry’s. She basically drove her parents nuts when she was too young to go to Hogwarts: she really wanted to be there and would not shut up about it until she finally boarded the train. Magic also has a way of getting out of her control – there was a very nasty incidence that she caused when she was younger that she refuses to talk about to this day. (Her brothers found it hilarious though. If you want to know about it, just ask them. They’ll be more than happy to tell it). Lily is also quite tomboyish and doesn’t do any of that “girly” stuff that other young witches do: dolls were never a priority; in fact, she would rather have a broom than just about anything else. She can’t understand girls that are “girly” either: they just creep her out. On top of all of that, Lily has a reputation for being brave to the point of recklessness - her mom says she got that from her father. And her mom is probably right.
Lily’s life while she was growing up at 12 Grimmauld Place was about as normal as any young witch’s life can be. For one, she never knew her dad was really famous until she went to Hogwarts. To her, Harry was just "Dad" - not "The Boy Who Lived" or "The Chosen One". He only had told his kids a little about Voldemort before they went to school – obviously, he didn’t want to scare them with the horrors the Dark Lord had committed. So it was a shock to her to hear the stories about him when she finally got to Hogwarts.
She also had two older brothers that she was pretty close with: James and Albus. She loves them dearly, even if they are really annoying sometimes and whine when she beats them in Quidditch. The only other people around her age that she was really close with before she went to Hogwarts were her cousins, Rose and Hugo, and Teddy Lupin who has always been her third older brother. Rose was her best friend and lifeline when dealing with her brothers while Lily was growing up. She knew she could always count on her. And Teddy? Teddy was always there - he is family, plain and simple as that.
Not much has changed since Lily got her letter to go to Hogwarts on the eve of her 11th birthday. She still loves and hangs with her annoying brothers, talks to Rose on a daily basis, and writes to Mom and Dad once a week. Quidditch is her passion and Chaser is where she belongs, although she’s a very good Seeker. Lily’s very friendly and open with everyone and strives to get good grades. But she also has a bit of a troublemaker side… she’s been known to steal James’s Invisibility Cloak and wander the school at night with the help of the Marauder’s Map, an heirloom from her father.
RP Sample:
Lily bounced up and down on the balls of her feet, trying to contain her excitement. Here she was, standing on Platform 9 ¾ for the fourth time in her life. That in itself wasn’t exciting at all, but this time everything was different. Instead of just wishing her brothers well as they boarded the train, she would actually… finally… be joining them this year! It was a moment she had looked forward to ever since James got his letter all those long years ago. Anticipation and adrenalin ran rampant through her veins as she kissed Mom and Dad both goodbye. “See you next June!” she yelled merrily back to them with a wave as she jumped on the train and claimed a seat in the same cabin as her brothers.
Suddenly, the train gave a great lurch and began puffing its way forwards. Lily’s excitement reached a peak; she felt as if she might explode. A large grin was plastered to her face as she looked out the window. It wasn’t a surprise to see her dad running alongside the train. She waved back at him overeagerly until the train had pulled out of the station. Lily caught one last glimpse of her father before the train blocked him from view. He looks a bit worried she thought to herself briefly, but that particular tidbit was soon swept away in a rush of renewed excitement. She was going to Hogwarts!
