First breakfast at Hogwarts [James and Open]

Lily yawned as she made her way into the Great Hall for her first breakfast at her new school. Even though she was excited to start classes, she hated waking up early. Tiredness and Anticipation were playing a rowdy game of tug of war inside of her, and at the moment, Tiredness was winning even though Anticipation wouldn't let her get back to sleep.

She sank onto one of the long benches that ran along the Gryffindor table. Or at least she hoped it was the Gryffindor table. Very few people were there, and last night had been such a blur. The memory dealing with the actual placement of the table had been drown out by the images of happy faces smiling at her and the sight of more food than she had ever seen in her life spread out across the wood surface. Lily yawned again. This morning would be a very light breakfast - she was still stuffed from the night before.

Lily pulled a piece of toast off of the large stack in front of her and began munching on it as she read Hogwarts: A History. Her Aunt Hermione had told her that it was a very useful book and a must read for all new students. Lily still remembered the dirty look she had shot at Uncle Ron when she said that. Her youngest niece giggled. The look he gave in return was priceless. Lily didn't doubt that her uncle had never read the book, but when it came to reading, Aunt Hermione knew best. So, she had taken her aunt's advice and began reading the copy she had received for Christmas last year.

By the time she had finished the first chapter, sunlight had flooded the hall. Lily looked up to grab another piece of toast and was pleasantly surprised to see James walking into the hall. She waved at him, hoping he would notice.

James strolled into the Great Hall, looking more casual then he did his previous three years. He walked with a certain je ne sais quoi that told everyone just how relaxed and cool he was. He wasn't particularly hungry that morning, but he was looking for a certain Lily Potter to see what she was up to..

At last, he found her, sitting at the oddly empty Gryffindor table. He absentmindedly waved back while walking over to her, then reached over her head, and snatched the toast from her hand. "You didn't butter it," he said disappointingly, taking a large bite from it before giving it back. He took a seat next to her, then took the book. "You haven't read this yet? Gosh, I read this before I came here."

He laughed a bit, then gave it back. He pulled a plate to himself and stacked it with pancakes and waffles, drowned it in maple and chocolate syrup, then began to wolf it down selfishly. He grinned at Lily between pancakes, and once he was done with what was on his plate he poured himself a nice big glass of pumpkin juice.

James leaned back, satisfied, a sly smile spread widely across his face. "So, you made any friends yet?" He asked. If she hadn't, he could introduce her to many people, as he himself was relatively popular.

Lily shot her brother a dirty look at the mention of the unbuttered - and now brother-slobbery - piece of toast and the unread book. It wasn't her fault she hadn't gotten through it yet - he was the one that had gotten her so excited about Hogwarts that she couldn't concentrate on anything for weeks.

"Hungry?" she asked with a laugh as James began to shovel in food like there was no tomorrow. She knew he always ate like that, but that was no reason not to make fun of him about it. That was the little sister's job after all, and everyone knew it.

Finally, he finished. Then he asked if she had made any friends yet. Her smile dropped like a brick into a pond. "No, not yet" she said a bit downhearted. What if no one liked her? Lily didn't think she could stand the humiliation of going through seven years of school with only her cousins - or worse, her brothers - to talk to. With a sigh, she took a bite of toast, then spit it out realizing that it was from the area where James had decided to "quality check".
